Here are our 8 top tips on how to maximise your experience at this year’s Isle of Man Aviation Conference on 26 June 2024:
1. Make the most out of the transport: On the day of the conference there will be transport provided for off-island delegates from a selection of Douglas hotels (The Claremont, Sefton and Regency). Be sure to plan your route accordingly to make the most out of what’s on offer!
2. Dress accordingly: We are switching things up this year and have a selection of new venues! As a result we will be venturing straight from the conference at Bradda Glen to the conference afterparty at The Sound, so make sure to wear something smart casual that you will be comfortable that you can spend most of the day in.
3. Arrive early: many attendees arrive early to get in some pre-conference socialising. Get in contact to find out who else will be there and suggest a meeting place for lunch. The pubs and eateries along the quayside get the lunchtime sun and are a hotspot for pint and a chat, and don’t miss our pre-conference networking event at The Terminus Tavern!
4. The Manx Steam Railway: Enjoy an iconic trip on the Manx Steam Railway as we leave the south and head back to Douglas through the idyllic Manx countryside. Make sure to also join in on the traditional pub crawl as you arrive in Douglas, continuing along the quay for as long as your heart’s desire!
5. Running shoes: whether you are a runner or a walker, the promenade in Douglas allows an easy 5k run/stroll along the beautiful bay. Do not forget to pack a pair of trainers (and hopefully sunglasses).
6. Photos: make sure to get plenty of photos of the stunning Port Erin Bay from Bradda Glen and watch out for our resident seals at The Sound networking event on 26 June after the conference ends.
7. Try the queenies: in addition to the local speciality of cheese, chips and gravy (think Manx poutine) the small locally caught scallops are a delicacy – perfectly sweet and tender queenies. If you have time the majority of pubs and restaurants will have these on the menu.
8. Have fun: the Isle of Man Aviation Conference does have serious topics and panels to discuss the issues pressing the business aviation industry. However, it is also a relaxed atmosphere with great networking opportunities and always fun.
Remember to relax and enjoy the full IOMAC experience!
